Ann Thomas has served Covenant as Director
of Music Ministries since 2002. During this time, the program has
evolved through a variety of opportunities for our congregation and
community to share in special worship and musical programs that both
enrich our lives and help us witness to others. We have had
classical instrumental concerts, a contemporary Christian singer, an
older adult traveling choir from New Mexico, and we have enjoyed the
many and varied talents of our own members and choirs.
Part of our growing ministry that we are especially excited about is
our presentation of musical dramas in worship. Our major event of
this past season was “The Living Last Supper” which was a drama
inspired by DaVinci’s “Last Supper”. Featuring the choir and church
members as the twelve disciples, we transformed the Sanctuary into
the Upper Room for an inspirational worship experience. During Holy
Week of 2009, the composer of this work, Ruth Elaine Schram, will be
our special guest conductor as “Composer-in-Residence” for the week.
At Christmas this year, we will present “The Living Light” during
worship on Dec. 14.
Other facets of the Music Ministry in which we welcome everyone are
the choir that meets weekly on Wednesdays, the Handbell Choir, and
our Vacation Bible School. Our congregation is a partner of
Ridgeview Elementary School, and as partners, Ann Thomas and the
music teacher at the school have combined several times in providing
field trips for the students, and in inviting the children to
present concerts for their parents and our congregation.
We have many exciting plans, and as the seasons progress, there will
be many more. As a member of the congregation, you know the “welcome
sign” is always out. If you are a visitor to our church, or a person
reading about us on the web, please know that we sincerely hope we
can “Share the Joy” with YOU as we worship God through our music and
drama and other varied worship experiences.
Please come visit us this Sunday – let us extend to you our personal
welcome! |
